Mayweather Offers McGregor $50 Million For Fight

The world’s highest-paid athlete three of the past four years is looking for another big score after banking $700 million during his two decades in the ring. Rumors have swirled for two weeks about a possible matchup between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, who are the biggest pay-per-view stars in boxing and UFC respectively. Nevermind that Mayweather is “retired” and the likelihood is almost nil the two fighters could square off in a format that works with Mayweather holding a massive advantage in the boxing ring and McGregor equally so in the octagon.

The latest turn in the saga is a TMZ report early Friday morning that Mayweather offered McGregor $50 million for a bout on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas. The TMZ report adds that Mayweather’s camp has not reached out to UFC head honcho Dana White. McGregor is under contract with the UFC and any deal needs to go through White. White is on record saying such a fight is “impossible.”
Both fighters are master marketers and are fueling the madness with Mayweather saying he started the rumors. He sat down with Showtime and said: “I’m pretty sure we can make it happen.” McGregor tweeted out a potential fight promotion poster.
